We cancelled our trip to Canon Beach. Because virus.

There are a lot of elderly people in our circles of friends, and some of them have pulmonary and immune issues.

So, we're not going to risk bringing viruses from airplanes back with us.

Drag.

What's fun to do when air travel is out of the question?

To quote RazorsEdge from Dotties vacation thread:

"Ride your bike. Surf porn. Drink tons of coffee.

Basically the same as normal days the wife isn't around."

Maybe we'll drive in our car to someplace remote. And carry bleach wipes everywhere we go.

How's your backyard look?  I question the idea that if it's unsafe to go places that you can go someplace safe.  Maybe the nations should just take this seasonal break at home.

I got 3 weeks of vacation to kill. How about a custom tour of the new coronavirus epicenter here in greater Seattle? I'll show you the hospital the first patient was at, take you to the nursing home where the virus has killed multiple people and the high school where a teen came down with symptoms while not in contact with any known carriers. I'll even take you to the health care center where my wife works where they are turning folks away.

You'll love it here.

Staycation?  Use the savings from the airfare to book a room at a nice hotel in a metro area where you can walk to a nice dinner and then go see a play or concert?

The hotels are staffed by germ laden folks.  The restaurants are staffed by germ laden folks. The theaters are filled with germ laden folks. The orchestra is LITERALLY BLOWING germ from the germ laden orchestra members directly at the crowd!

Are you trying to kill her or help her?

A lot of people do not explore what is close to home.  Find a tourist magazine or google an on line list .  100 exciting things to do around Roadsue's town.  Start ticking them off kn a series of day trips staging from the house, even if you are not interested in it.  You may surprise yourself with what you enjoy.

But take a day...., and pick a meal.  Three courses or something and cook something you have never cooked before.  Start in the morning over coffee and choose your menu, go grocery shopping for those specific items, find a wine to go with it and make an elaborate meal for just you.

That is how I made Beef Wellington before I had even ever had Beef Wellington.  If you do it together, it is different than regualr meal prep.  When getting tour prep work done, put on some tunes (Pink Martini is good food prep music), sip a little wine, dance in the kitchen and have fun.

My wife and I are often figuring out what to do on a long weekend or when the weather is perfect.  Camping is always an option, but hikes, scenic drives, short visits to neighboring states, bike adventures, or museums can easily be worked in.  Sometimes, though, an "outsiders" view of your area is a good way to find something new.  Folks who plan a visit to your neck of the woods may have spent a lot of time looking through tourist guides and googling, so may know some stuff you missed or forgot about.

I agree with Mr Silly, but there are other options.

Where are you located?

New Mexico. We’ve been considering Puerto Penasco, too. It’s a day’s drive, and we could hang out on the beach.

That’s not us. We’re both teachers, so we’ve explored extensively during the summers. You should see our National Parks Passport book, too. Time and date stamps for everything. Canon Beach was going to be our first return visit on a list of places we’ve already been, but this time around for longer and more in-depth visits.
