Parr8hed Posted July 14, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2014 One would think that with all of the technology these days that you could make a rear brake that would not need adjustment nearly as often. 90% of the time when one of the tour riders have to switch bikes after a crash they have to spend a lot of time at the car getting that damn rear brake adjusted. Maybe we could somehow fit the same brake calipers to the rear as we do the front? The front seem to never need adjustment.

Parr8hed Posted July 14, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted July 14, 2014 they never seem to need adjustments on descents. Yea, that's funny how that works.
jsharr ★ Posted July 14, 2014 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2014 I think being on the rear in the climbs, they all the wieight of the bike and rider on them and that causes the cable to stretch and they need lots of adjustment. The front brake actually gets better on the ascents as it does not have all the weight on it.
jsharr ★ Posted July 14, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2014 Maybe they should put a rear spoiler on the bikes?
Chopped Liver Posted July 14, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 14, 2014 you have to hide the batteries for that motor someplace.
Road Runner Posted July 14, 2014 Share #7 Posted July 14, 2014 Adjusting the rear brakes on a moving bike from a car is easily done. I'm not sure adjusting the front brakes in a similar manner would be possible since the front fork is normally moving.
Former member Posted July 14, 2014 Share #8 Posted July 14, 2014 What will happen when the UCI permits the use of discs? Will sprinters need their brakes bled on the way up Col du Tourmalet?

The rider could do it if there was actually something wrong.

I would imagine that the saddles may need a little more adjustment then. Gotta make sure that the seat post clamp is properly torqued. And maybe a turn or two of the barrel adjuster on the RD? jsharr ★ Posted July 14, 2014 Share #11 Posted July 14, 2014 I would like to see someone get their bottom bracket repacked on a climb.

JerrySTL ★ Posted July 14, 2014 Share #13 Posted July 14, 2014 Those riders sure have to hang onto the car for a long time while the brakes and rear derailleurs are being adjusted.
TrentonMakes Posted July 14, 2014 Share #14 Posted July 14, 2014 My brand-new rear brake cable seemed to have stretched quite a bit on yesterday's ride. I probably should have gotten it adjusted, but unfortunately my team car was nowhere in sight. Bastards.

kingtermite Posted July 14, 2014 Share #18 Posted July 14, 2014 You're supposed to have brakes in the rear? Hmmm....maybe I didn't read the kit instructions correctly when I built this bike. I thought they were spare brake pads, so I put them on my car which needed a brake job at the time.
