Gump Posted July 21, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2014 We had planned a nice 40 mile route to ride on Saturday morning. Left home about 8:30, near perfect day. Headed about 25 miles west to an area of rolling hills through some very nice farm country (not like we don't live in farm country). Get within about 3 miles of our starting point and I realize I forgot our bike helmets. Turn around and drive back home, by now it's 10 o'clock. So we decide to drive east about 15 miles and ride in the hills instead. Turned out to be a good ride but it probably cost us $20 in gas to do it. jsharr ★ Posted July 21, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 21, 2014 I have travelled much further only to find I had forgotten my shoes. Once, a buddy and I were heading to Fort Worth for a ride and we used my car and trunk rack. I had never had two bikes on the rack before so the thought of checking to see if a tire was in front of the exhaust never occurred to me until we heard the LOUD BANG like a gunshot as we drove down the highway. I melted a brand new tire on his bike. That sucked.
Road Runner Posted July 21, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 21, 2014 I have travelled much further only to find I had forgotten my shoes. This is why I always do a mental check list right before I pull out of the driveway. And yes, jsharr, I should probably also do a mental checklist on known locked gates in the road ahead...

I trust in luck and happenstance. What is the worst that could happen?
UglyBob Posted July 21, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 21, 2014 I've forgotten my shoes before, too. I ended up doing a 20 mile MTB ride with sneakers hanging on SPD pedals. My feet hurt for 2 days after that one.
Reverend_Maynard Posted July 21, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 21, 2014 I forgot my helmet not too long ago. Ride start was 40 mins from home. Had to drive home and get it, then back again. Annoying...

petitepedal ★ Posted July 21, 2014 Share #10 Posted July 21, 2014 Yes..Bob you did...even when you had a bike of the correct size on hand...HOWEVER, I rode said bike 25 miles with a Brooks saddle on it when I had my own comfy Terry saddle in my suitcase. Certain girly parts were numb for 3 days after those 25 miles

jsharr ★ Posted July 21, 2014 Share #14 Posted July 21, 2014 The bike was okay. The rider was too short. I agree. When the top tube and downtube touch at the headtube, you cannot make the bike any smaller. Rider was the problem.

Unless you go to 650 wheels. Don't tell me those were 650s
Destination Posted July 21, 2014 Share #16 Posted July 21, 2014 I have travelled much further only to find I had forgotten my shoes. I have campus pedals on my bike. If I don't remember my shoes, I can still enjoy a decent ride.

Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted July 21, 2014 Share #18 Posted July 21, 2014 I forgot our bike helmets. Oh for goodness sake! At least I've never packed up the family for a week-long vacation then drove several hundred miles only to realize once we arrived I forgot my shoes for my clipless pedals. UglyBob Posted July 21, 2014 Share #22 Posted July 21, 2014 Are you a tiny little girlie man or something? Nope, I just own a lot of bikes. You never know when you might need to loan one out to a friend.

Why not just keep one extra, as it does not appear that you know how to size bikes for friends?
