Randomguy Posted April 8, 2020 Share #1 Posted April 8, 2020 Everybody is so pc and so afraid of talking race these days, and this show took it head on. Plus, the writing is really good. 2

smudge ★ Posted April 8, 2020 Share #3 Posted April 8, 2020 Yup. I used to watch it with my grandparents when I would spend the night. I never heard my grandpa laugh so hard as he did when Sammy Davis Jr kissed Archie on the cheek.

MickinMD ★ Posted April 8, 2020 Share #5 Posted April 8, 2020 All in the Family was unprecedented in openly exposing problems involving social bias and ignorance. It was shocking because no other TV show talked about those things. When i was in living in the IIT dorms in the mid 70's, only one guy on our floor had a color TV and a lot of us gathered in his room when All in the Family was on each week. The same for MASH.
JerrySTL ★ Posted April 8, 2020 Share #6 Posted April 8, 2020 It was a big thing when I was in high school. We'd discuss the show the day after an episode aired. Archie walking down the stairs while the toilet was flushing cracked me up.

Hard to believe toilets were taboo considering what's on TV today I remember reading an article aboot the brady bunch bathroom that was shared by the kids. It has no toilet. Apparently the network wasn't allowed to show a toilet on TV.
