Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted July 22, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 22, 2014 I generally throw out anything that's chard. It tastes too much like charcoal; like it's been burned.
kingtermite Posted July 22, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 22, 2014 What do you do with Swis Chard? I tell it to go and find another 's' before I'll do ANYTHING with it.

Chopped Liver Posted July 23, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 23, 2014 I've juiced it once....other than that, I don't think I've ever done anything with it.
TrentonMakes Posted July 23, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 23, 2014 We have an organic farm-share and chard season has already begun. Once I added some to a rice pilaf but I almost always just saute it - I chop the stems and start them first with some onions and garlic (or garlic scapes - we get a lot of those too). Maybe a little balsamic when it's done. I love the stuff; but it's a fair bit of work for a pretty small return (i.e. enough for my wife and me). Destination Posted July 23, 2014 Share #7 Posted July 23, 2014 You could sauté it, stir-fry it or use it as the start of an amazing salad. You can't go too far wrong with Swiss chard.
Former member Posted July 23, 2014 Share #8 Posted July 23, 2014 I would feed it to the quail in my backyard.

Former member Posted July 23, 2014 Share #10 Posted July 23, 2014 You would have some very happy quail. There are 6 families that feed here now, and they all seem very happy with the spring mix and corn scratch we give them,
SuzieQ Posted July 23, 2014 Share #11 Posted July 23, 2014 Saute or even put it in smoothies
Dirtyhip Posted July 23, 2014 Share #12 Posted July 23, 2014 I don't like it. If I had some, I would juice it.
Kzoo Posted July 23, 2014 Share #13 Posted July 23, 2014 I've juiced it once....other than that, I don't think I've ever done anything with it. That's the first step in composting it. Put it in the juicer and juice it real good. Then throw the juicer and the chard both in the compost pile.
Longjohn ★ Posted July 23, 2014 Share #14 Posted July 23, 2014 I didn't plant any this year. Now I want some. I usually just steam it, I eat huge quantities of it when I grow it. I love the flavor and texture.
Ralphie ★ Posted July 23, 2014 Share #15 Posted July 23, 2014 That's the first step in composting it. Put it in the juicer and juice it real good. Then throw the juicer and the chard both in the compost pile. I was going to suggest maybe just using one of those oatmeal recipes where the last step is to throw away the oatmeal.
