This happened today about 2 blocks from our house. I did not hear the shots ring out, but it F'ed up traffic for damn sure.

a minivan and another vehicle were firing shots at each other in a "running gun battle" on the highway. Clarke said the second vehicle struck the van and spun it out.

"We do have an independent witness outside of the incident that said there were two cars driving side by side northbound on I-43. They were firing at each other -- saw guns sticking out of windows of both vehicles," Clarke said.

Shots fired after bicyclist hit by car

 

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police say shots were fired after a man on a bicycle was intentionally hit by a car.

It happened around 6 p.m. on Bemis Street SE near Joe Taylor Park.

A 19-year-old on a bike was intentionally hit by a car, police say. Witnesses said they saw the man thrown from the bike.

The car kept going, but then crashed into a nearby truck.

The driver of the car then opened fire on the 19-year-old, but missed. Witnesses said they heard three or four gunshots.

“We was scared. We had three little kids with us; my friend had her kids with us. We had to go. We had to get out of here. It was scary. We don’t need our kids seeing that,” a witness said. “We came down here on a regular day trying to have fun, and ran into something like this.”

The driver then took off on foot.

Police said Tuesday night they were still working to identify the driver. The car involved was a rental.

The 19-year-old was injured, but is expected to survive.

He didn't just wreck his car.  He demolished a 4WD pickup that was parked in his way.
