JerrySTL ★ Posted July 24, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 24, 2014 you can't go wrong with Continental Gatorskins. +1. Also Continental GP 4000S tires especially the Black Chili version. More high performance than the 'skins with somewhat less puncture protections. The GPs have little dimples in the tread that are wear indicators. Nice touch. When the threads are showing, it's time to replace them. Otherwise, keep them rolling.
Former member Posted July 24, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 24, 2014 GP4000s tires are nice, but far from durable.
Destination Posted July 24, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 24, 2014 Try running Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires. They've been good to me.

Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted July 24, 2014 Share #8 Posted July 24, 2014 Continental 4Seasons. They're durable, grippy and can handle the crap that midwest states use to treat the roads in winter. I'm into my third year for these and they come in 23, 25 and 28.

Square Wheels Posted July 24, 2014 Share #10 Posted July 24, 2014 I have been using GP4000s. I can't wear one out. I seem to get a gash in one before I wear it out. Small nicks and holes I'm OK with, but gashes not so much. I doubt anything it impervious to glass. I've been happy enough with the tires, it's the schmucks that throw their beer bottles on the side of the road that bug me.
Road Runner Posted July 24, 2014 Share #11 Posted July 24, 2014 I have Gatorskins. They survived a test crash at full speed into a locked barrier.
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted July 24, 2014 Share #12 Posted July 24, 2014 3rd year for the same set? Yep, but I don't ride as many miles as you. I probably have less than 3000 miles on them now.

Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted July 24, 2014 Share #14 Posted July 24, 2014 ....so what do you guys suggest???? I would suggest round, circular-type tires. Unless, of course, you have Square Wheels.
