  1. I don't mind it.

I don't much any more, but the job I had in 2012-2013 involved travel. If they hadn't made the job so stressful by lack of training and pressure to do the work of two people, the travel would have been a lot of fun.

I enjoyed the Hilton Garden Inns as a good place at not an insane price. Well, other than the Manhattan one; two nights there was more than one of my mortgage payments.

Pancreas...he said but he doesnt even have all his results yet...

It is just sad..both of these folks not lived at our building long..and on the younger side..compared to some of the others...

WoLW was so jaundiced from liver failure at the end, that if more than the base lights were on at the room in hospice, I'd have been shocked. I was, when they were turned on after she passed. If it's pancreatic cancer, primary cause of death is hepatic (liver) failure, which is the primary cause of the jaundice.

There's no way around saying it sucks. The best thing is for meds for the pain (and for calm/anti-anxiety, which can be caused by the liver not filtering toxins adequately), and companionship so someone doesn't feel alone.

  3. Right now, I place the most of the blame at the Federal level.

They had a chance to purchase more vaccine last summer ahead of time -and declined. Other countries snapped that up.

They now promised to open up the reserves; only unlike they said, there are almost no reserves. This caused every state to open up to Level 1B sooner, when there likely isn't enough.

I'm a schedule 1B (essential to the economy, yadda yadda).  A few of our people got in, but scheduling was gone in a flash.

My boss knows someone who's part of the effort, so I'm on an on-call list for the "leftover doses in the vial" at the end of the night. If there are doses, I'm supposed to get a call around 9PM, and have a certain amount of time to get there and get the shot (I'm fairly close by).

I hope the next administration invokes the Defense Authorization Act for vaccine production.

(NOTE: This is not a rant about politics or the government; it's literally stating what happened and why)

That is GOOD news.  Sure, it doesn't fix the issues, but surgery is a REAL DEAL, and not having to go under a knife - even the high-tech "knives" they use these days.  If it heals enough to not be nagging, you're probably good to go.  Just have to give up your shot at being the 3rd string Bills QB.

Considering the Bills, he might not have to give that shot up.

All he has to do is show off his choking skills.

It seems after my wife read her mom the riot act and then her son did the same, she shut down and isn’t returning texts or calls. I really have no further info...  She broke down crying to my wife, I’m a horrible person whoa is me....

She was told to hold the money & return it.  She didn’t today so hopefully she does so tomorrow.  But it wouldn’t surprise me if she sends the person the money, because you know, they have been talking for months and he could be  the one...

Not that you'd necessarily want to do this...it's the nuclear option...

Do you and WoChris believe that she is possibly what you might consider "diminished mental capacity" or "unable to act in her best interest"?

If so, you could possibly legally take over her finances in such a way that she had structured amounts of money to do what she needed, but limited ability to make mistakes.

I just don't understand these tall issues :dontknow:...I hate to think about any shrinkage cos I will be the little ol lady peering over the steering wheel..and I dont know if they still put blocks on gas pedals

All depends on the car for me.

Some bring the roofline awfully close, though as long as that doesn't cut down on the top of the windshield, I'm fine. WoLW's Subaru (now ParentsoLW's Subaru) had a teensy bit of this though I could get the seats comfortable.

At that point, it's a matter of giving me enough leg room to stretch without a steering wheel that's too far away to reach.  This is where Honda truly shines. Every Honda and Acura I've owned seems to be able to give me perfect driving position. The 2016 Civic was excellent at it, my `94 Integra GS-R was too, and my other two (`91 Integra, 2004 Civic) were quite good at it. It seems like their engineers worked very well to accommodate people of all heights.

The Hyundai is just a teensy bit off for me, despite having a fully power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support. If I get as close as I want to the steering wheel, my legs don't have quite the room. So I go back, and then the steering wheel telescoped to its fullest would be just a bit more comfortable if it could extend a few inches more. It's perfect for nearly everyone, but you've met me...Heh.

My Prius doesn't have a moon roof.  I have plenty of head room in the car.

The Subaru Forester has a huge moon roof, and that has even more head room for me.   I may have opened the roof once.

The Honda Prelude is WoBG's car.  I don't fit into the car very well at all.  My head touches the roof and it came with a moon roof.  Then again, I don't drive the car much, she fits just fine.

I used to go to the Chicago Auto Show just to see if I could fit into a car.  I got to try out more than a few cars in 1 day.  I haven't attended that show in several years.   I wanted a Toyota 4 Runner until I found out i was too tall and would hit the roof, if it had a moon roof.

The panoramic moon roof was not key amongst my features. But...

Just opening the headliner and seeing all the sunshine through front-to-back (tinted) glass without it ever being open is actually really lovely. And this is the first moon roof that when I open it, has a front fabric guard to block wind/noise at least below a certain speed.

I don't know how much I'll have it open to the air. But it's pretty darn lovely on a sunny day when it's never even open.

a light should go off w/ this statement

Any time they send you a check for more money than something is worth, it's a guaranteed scam.

4 hours ago, Old No. 7 said:

Check holds by the bank don’t typically work. The checks are typically payable to the mark to avoid refuse to accept or extended holds. The originator knows how long they have until the check is returned. The checks are also typically under the $10,000 threshold to avoid delays In processing. After the check is sent the mark (MIL), starts getting pressed to send the money, usually in the form of gift cards that can be sent electronically with no oversight. Three day holds on the funds are useless when the checks are returned up to ten days later and the money has been gone for a week.

I got one of the gift card spam e-mails at work, and asked my boss if he minded if I strung them along, and he grinned and said "Go for it". I texted the fish from a Google Voice number.

I kept the fish on the line for 45 minutes "going to a store during COVID", finding gift cards but they weren't a high enough denomination, having to choose another kind, (scammer pretended to be in a meeting and using them for prizes to company guests).

I had just "bought them" and the scammer asked me to scratch them off and give me the codes. I said "Yes, I'm doing that...can you do me one favor?" He said "What?"

I said "Can you stick your head here?" and sent him a picture of a rectal prolapse.

The colorful curse words I got back as I literally texted back laughter and told him that was what he got for trying to steal from people was totally worth it.

My husband is a hospice nurse, I will ask him about morphine.  What is the measurement on the syringe?

I know that he does not let his patients experience too much pain.  He siad there are signs of distress.  He watches closely and is right in there with the drugs.  He said that someone's last days should not be spent in incredible pain.

I wish he would get home.  I want to eat dinner.

Hospice nurses are heroes. My hat is still off to the ones that looked after WoLW. They were very kind and they limited her pain as much as possible.

:)  When I got my first Z28 Camaro, of course a 4 speed manual.  The sales guy asked do I want a T top?   I told him, No. I want steel above my head when I roll it over.

I have never liked sun roofs.  I'm tall and they take too much headroom from the inside of most cars.  And I still want steel above my head.

I'm as tall as you, and the panoramic moon roof on Shadow takes no headroom from me. :D

Honestly, what I really need is for the telescoping steering wheel to extend another 4". Not because of my arms as much as my legs. Just the teensiest bit hard on my right shoulder.

low inventory here too.  Some assholes want 190K for a crappy 2 bedroom.

tbh, if that's what the market would bear and I was selling a crappy two bedroom, I'd be an asshole too.

I have a very modest 1951 bungalow. Three beds (counting the dormer bedroom), 1.5 baths, with a tub and a second shower stall. Two stall detached garage, corner lot with a back yard separating the house and the garage (garage faces one street, house another).

A similar house down the block went for $201k this fall. 50-60% over what we paid back in 2005.  A part of me would be really interested in going condo, but there's only six years left on the mortgage, and despite the higher resale value, that means everything else has a higher resale value too, unless you move to a lower-demand neighborhood.
