I have enough material to make a second bag. I might make another and fix the mistakes I made. It was my first sewing project. I could have started with something easier.
This was our third bikepacking trip in GSE. It's beautiful! Rugged. You couldn't do the loop in a car. We had to post hole through knee deep snow. Rain, snow, hail, and death mud made it challenging. Water is hard to find, so we melted snow. Any moisture brings sticky mud. The soil is bentonite. My shoes are still a mess. It took multiple washings to get my bike clean. The first night was cold. My water bottles froze.

I used to work in a hospital dietary department. My method of delivery was leave the tray and get out of the room before they could lift the lid and see the food.
We did allow patients to order off the menu and they would cook it for you. It was an unwritten rule. The smart ones did this. One kid got a cheeseburger and fries every day.
I switched shifters for a couple of reasons. I really did not like the Sram double-tap shifters. Without replacing the entire drivetrain, bar-ends were the only option. Bar-ends are simple and reliable. Shit goes wrong when you are on a bike for multiple days in the backcountry. You need a plan. Look at what happened to Lachlan Morton on the divide. He had to jam a spoke into his derailleur to continue riding.
Of all the shifters I have used, I like Shimano and Microshift the best. Gripshift was pretty good on mountain bikes. The ergonomics of Microshift might be some of the best I have used.
Our friends are taking the Amtrak. Third year in a row. They love it. You can roll you bike on for $10. Not boxing needed like the airlines. We'll pick them up tomorrow morning and head to the desert.
There seems to be more focus on the shifters than the framepack. I MADE IT! BY myself! I learned how to sew and made the damn thing. Martha Stewart I am not, but I did it.
The bar-end shifters are replacing Sram double-tap shifters. I really did not like the double-tap. I finally gave up and went old school. The thing about bikepacking is we are in the backcountry. No shop to fix stuff. Bar-end shifters are awesome. You can switch over to friction if needed. The left shifter is friction, the right is index.
The kitchen is my workbench. Notice the bottle cage and park tool grease on the stove. I think the bolts were sitting on the cutting board. It has now moved to the dining/laundry three feet away.
