...they do look like they had fun

Who else is excited for the race??? I may have to figure out how to catch some stages while on vacation, but I will get to see the final week, so hopefully it is a close one still. Stages 18, 19, and 20 (a TT) should be tough!

Think this was intentional or not? Hard to tell with idiots, but I think it was. I need an expert - @Parr8hed - opinion.

I'm generally a solo rider, but yesterday, while enjoying the Spring weather, I picked up a rider while I was still warming up. About five minutes into my ride, as I slowed for an intersection, I heard another cyclist freewheeling to a stop too. He asked if it was okay to sit on my wheel and I was fine with it and continued riding my own ride. But then he started chatting to me from my back wheel area. "Is that electronic shifting?" followed by a string of bike related questions. Eventually he pulled alongside me instead of just drafting, and we rode about 10 miles chatting. He eventually said good bye and turned around. I continued, but then after turning around and eventually catching and passing a guy in a Trek jersey and a SWEET green Madone, I realized he had posed onto my wheel too. After a few miles, he swung to the front and really amped up the pace I drafted him for a while, but I generally don't like to do that when there are enough folks out to have to slow down to pass folks too often. I told him I was gonna drop off, but he instead slowed to ride next to me and we chatted for the next 10 miles until I got home. To me, that's not "normal" for an afternoon ride. To pick up two separate riders - and to then chat with them for most of a ride - is very rare. Sure, folks will draft, but not usually turn that into a rolling conversation. A nice departure from the norm, though. Not something I want to regularly occur, but nice when it does.

...seems to be Pogacar himself? Man, I would have liked to see him challenge for a Triple in L-B-L, but I'm hoping more he is fit and ready come July.

I was watching last week's episode, and archeologist Laird Niven was wearing a sweatshirt w/ a bike on it So I was able to pause it and see the logo. Turns out it was this BMO Cancer Ride. Looks like he's a cyclist

...but I saw him coming!

...after I added new sealant to the Diverge's tires and had the squealing front brake issue resolved, I took it for a ride. DAMN! Mechanical GRX is SWEET. Crisp easy shifts and quiet. The bike is super stealth (except the fat tires hum on pavement and displace a lot of gravel). Anyway, Di2 is where it is at, but Shimano just about reached mechanical shifting perfection with the GRX gruppo. Now, I just have to figure out what my best overall psi is gonna be. Rodd at 35 f & r, but imagine I might go to 25f/30r and see how that goes with the 44mm GravelKings.

A fun video. I do wish non-cycling heavier folks would actually spend some time out where folks are riding, and they might actually realize it is not uncommon at all for bigger folks to be out on bikes - all types of bikes. But, regardless, this woman did a good job on a messy course

Of all the random subscriptions that pop into my e-mail every so often, Bike Bits wins hands down for being "all interesting bikes stuff, zero pushing products on me". I highly recommend it to folks to subscribe to the Adventure Cycling Bike Bits newsletter.

Riding through the relatively busy town of Herndon, I got passed by a TT guy riding pretty fast. My opinion, obviously, is that you back off in crowds, and go fast in the open areas. Why be all wild when there is relatively little to be gained? Just another day at the office, though as these TT folks are almost always a bit of an azzhat.

...to consider making rechargeable batteries that cross various different usage categories. Power tools, lawn product, & now ebikes. Likely could jump to camping gear, outdoor activity stuff, emergency prep, etc..

...something as dopey awesome as "variable tire pressure" wheel systems! Like the Gravaa KAPS system (Jumbo Visma): ...or the Scope Atmoz system (DSM):

...but they need to talk to their PR/e-mail outreach folks. I got this e-mail TODAY (4/11) for a "see you on Sat 4/8" big event. FOLLOW US TO OUR NEW BEGINNING In 2020, Mavic took a new turn following the acquisition by Bourrelier Group. Since then, our teams have been focusing on some great projects that we are eager to share, by communicating directly with you. You were part of the list of people we used to address via our newsletter, we are relaunching our communication from today to share with you our news about products, innovations and results of our sponsored athletes. NEWS FROM OUR TEAMS: Last weekend, our Saint Michel Mavic Auber 93 women's team went with the Mavic race department to the cobblestones of the North of France to scout the course of Paris-Roubaix 2023. This was an opportunity for them to test different tyre pressures. Each cobbled sector was recognised in great detail on our SLR 45 tubeless wheels. These 2 days of reconnaissance will allow our riders to face the 145 km and the 17 cobbled sectors in the best conditions. See you on Saturday, April 8, 2023 for the big event!

...but it won't be to clean the bikes, just to add some spring sealant to the tubeless

This was one of my stranger bike builds back in the late 90's. The frame was an ultra light Mongoose with a down tube so butted that you could actually deflect feel it flex if you squeezed it with your hands. It was strong in the directions it needed to be though. It was a good ride on trails but it didn't have enough rake for high speeds on the road. I had it up over 4o on a downhill once and at the first corner the front tire started to wash out. I took it apart and used the parts on another frame. The drivetrain was SRAM X.9/Shimano LX/FSA and the wheels were my build with LX hubs and Mavic rims.
