That record came out not long after the head of the London Zoo, Desmond Morris, wrote the groundbreaking The Naked Ape, where he treated humans as just one additional kind of ape.  He wrote (paraphrasing), "There are 193 species of monkeys and 192 of them are covered with hair.  So I'll call the exception "the Naked Ape."

Some of Kinks' lyrics indicate the author may have read the book, the conclusion of which was that we would be more comfortable with our own existence if we would admit to ourselves that we are primarily a kind of animal. Morris made the point: "Even a naked ape in space has to urinate."
