I know that luck is always a part of the outcome in any game. That's a big part of what makes watching a game exciting. But when a contestant plays poorly relative to his opponents, it is a bit upsetting to see that contestant be rewarded with a win while his opponents excellent play is effectively disregarded. It is sort of like watching a baseball game where one team is ahead by 10 runs going into the ninth, but loses the game because in the ninth inning, a single hit counts as 12 runs. I think Jeopardy might benefit from a rules change that would somehow lessen the impact of a single, final question.

Tonight I learned that the contestants that deserve to win don't always win. Okay, I already knew that. But tonight's show reiterated this unfortunate fact in a big way.

Last night, I learned that Elvis was not responsible for the naming of Graceland. I always knew that Elvis had been into and probably significantly influenced by gospel songs and religious hymns. He recorded a number of Gospel records, some of which I own. I always assumed therefore, that the name "Graceland" was somehow deeply rooted in Elvis's own personal spirituality and religious beliefs. I was so wrong. Graceland is simply named after a member of the family (Aunt Grace) that originally built the home and subsequently sold it to Elvis in 1955 for $100,000. All this time, I thought "Graceland" was this beautiful name, signifying Elvis's spiritual feeling and love for his home in Tennessee. Nope. Just named after some unknown person named Grace.

I owed. They took my money immediately. No waiting.

Total forum cycling miles compiled in the Mileage thread. That is slightly greater than the distance from New York City to Hawaii. I hope the riders who did the CA to HI portion had some really fat tires on their bikes.

During my last one, I declined the Michael Jackson drugs (Propofol) and went through it awake and aware. It wasn't the worse thing ever, but I don't recommend it. Take the drugs. The clean-out beforehand is the worse part. Based on your previous poop post, I'm glad you are doing this.
