Ryan came home from school and wanted $20 to spend at the BookFair. Not on a book. On some kind of locking box that takes a key, and a code, and some pass card, etc. Probably cheap plastic imported stuff. Recently, I have been working with Ryan on saving money by buying smart, immediate gratification and buying quality instead of gimmick We got him a music stand off Amazon for less than the music store and it is a better stand with more features and a carry case. On Sunday we went to Cabelas and he spent his birthday money on a good quality sheath knife and a good quality sharpener instead of buying a gimmicky knife he could turn into a spear. So, when he came home and told me about the locking box thing, we got online and went to Amazon and started looking at locking boxes. Much to my surprise, this box came up on the search page. According to the shipment tracking my new bass is out for delivery I got one of these, its a Dean E09M. They are selling for around $130. I currently play a fretless Fender P-bass that is about a thousand dollar axe, but to really be able to slap-pop and have it crisp and clear, I need a fretted bass. I really just wanted a solid, "here's your bass, pal" sort of bass. I can adjust and set up an instrument, so I just need a basic axe. I don't like to play 5 or 6 string basses, and I really don't want or need more than one pickup and one volume knob and I always had a thing for natural wood electric basses. So while this is a "barebones" electric bass, its exactly what I was looking for. Everything I need and nothing I don't sort of thing. Mike set up a jam session Thursday with our buddy Chris so I can get it broken in proper Tonight I still have to practice for the recital in a couple weeks, but I'm going to find an hour to plug this sucker into my Hartke 3500 head and then blow it through a cabinet of 4x10s with a horn tweeter. It should rattle the window panes, but if it doesn't I'll hook up a preamp

My new Performance Ultra shorts came today. Very nice. This is my third or fourth pair of these that I have bought through the years. Performance continues to improve the shorts and these seem to be the best ever. I own other major brand shorts, but the Ultras are one of my favorites. Plus they are priced at $99, but are almost always on sale for $69 or $79. An excellent short for the money.
