The dark side of bike touring

He says some things I don’t agree with but basically true. I don’t stay as far to the right as possible because it encourages people to think they have room to squeeze past staying in lane. He likes to ride on the shoulder, I wonder how many flat tires he gets? I do ride the shoulder on a steep climb where I am climbing at walking speed. I’m going slow enough I can usually see glass and road debris and avoid it.

I'll take wind, hills, and dogs with little or no complaining.

Traffic and cars? Yeah, that's the stuff that kills you. :(

I ride just to the left of the shoulder line - usually a 3' or so strip. But I'll use common sense when approaching a section where a bit of shoulder is better than being in the road.  Shoulders are often nasty, but sometimes the better option.  "Choose your road wisely" is good advice as often there is a parallel and better option with less traffic.
