Certainly not.  I knew the rule and I knew what was happening as it was happening.  When I'm on someone's wheel I always give myself an out.  In this case, with the wind blowing her back and to the side I could not react fast enough.  As I saw the tires coming together I said to myself "Broken Collarbone"  I knew it before it happened.  Before I had stopped sliding on the asphalt I had already reached up and felt the 1/4 inch gap caused by the break.

The lesson learned - When riding in a strong gusty wind don't be so aggressive.  I was tucked in behind on the leeward side taking full advantage of the draft and it cost me much pain and 6 weeks off the bike.

The other lesson for those who care (Where's Jim).  Always wear a helmet.
