Hey Goat. My narcotic story

Emmy hit me with a fastball.  Right on the tip of my left great toe.  She throws somewhere in the mid 50's and I had a running shoe on.  It was pretty intense.  Certainly a "practice ender".  Honey just go inside and get a drink while I stay out front and cuss like a sailor.  

Later that night I put a glowing hot paperclip (heated up on my blowtorch) through the nail bed to relieve the pressure of the blood.  It was fun.

Fast forward two weeks and I had to have the toe nail taken off because it became infected and wasn't responding to one antibiotic.  When I had the toenail taken off the doc wrote me for a second antibiotic and asked me if I wanted pain pills.  I said maybe a couple for tonight and tomorrow night after work.  He told me that he needs to write for at least 10.  He said that it would look funny if he only wrote me for 2 

Anyways.... Took the daughter camping.  Just her and I until the wife got off work and drove the son up.  We went early to set up the camper.  I took the last of my antibiotic and hitched up the camper.  We set it up and I took my antibiotic and started drinking beer.  After the wife got there she thought I was shitfaced.  I had a few more brews and was just loopy.  Was so drunk that she was pissed off at me and actually sent me to bed early.  

Getting up the next morning I checked the meds and sure enough I had taken a vicodin and not an antibiotic!  Oops.  If you don't ever take pain meds and you drink 6-7 beers on top of one you may tend to get a little loopy.

Funny stuff, but how would you make that mistake with meds, and you a professional?

btw I thought booze was not to be mixed with antibiotics?

Because even professionals get in a hurry!  

Some antibiotics are ok.  Generally speaking it's not a good idea.  You should def not do what I do.

Several years ago I ended up in the ER with a broken leg.  The nurse gave me a prescription for some narcotic.  She said, "you're not supposed to drink alcohol when taking theses, but I would anyway...it makes them work better".  I shit you not.

Years ago, Fo2 dropped a full 5 gallon can of gasoline, edge first, on his big toe. lost the nail, split the bone, got a script (darvon, maybe?). A few days later Fo2 (who had a legendary tolerance for pain) told the doc the pills weren't cutting the pain. Doc told him to warsh it down with scotch. He did, it worked.
