Popular Post Tizeye Posted April 18, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted April 18, 2020 I wasn't aware of this until today when wife told me. Andrew Lloyd Webber activated a YouTube channel (free subscription) "The Show Must Go On!" and each Friday releases for free one of his hits to help with the shut in boredom. Today at 4:00 EDT, and for next 48 hours, He released Phantom of the Opera. This was a later performance in the Royal Albert Hall. When I lived in England, I saw it live in Her Majesty's Theater with the original cast a couple months after it launched. It was a surprise for family visiting - let's have a night in London and catch a show on the West End. On tonight's performance they bring the original cast (including Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman) for an encore performance. I missed the last two weeks - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar - but the others will be rotating in each of the next few Fridays. Each release is for 48 hours on demand only. Just something to be aware of and a little diversion from the usual.
Tizeye Posted April 18, 2020 Author Share #2 Posted April 18, 2020 Most Smart TVs and devices (Roku, Apple TV, etc) can access and play YouTube so not stuck with a small device like a phone or tablet. Also, it is not part of YouTubeTV $45/mo cable substitute program which can be confusing when they use the same name and accessed the same way. I have the Channel Master Stream+ which is Google's Chromecast based. It allows non-subscription recording of programs. The two primary problems with Stream+ are 1) records OTA only, assumes streaming can be replayed on demand which isn't true when considering streaming only channels like ESPN live broadcast, and 2) on the Chromcast side, the Google store doesn't offer some major apps like Netflix, where easier to go to another streaming device than a convoluted workaround. SmartTV's using Chromecast may have Netflix in the provided menu as the manufacturers programmed a workaround.
