groupw Posted May 24, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2021 I posted this earlier today on FB, but didn’t have time to share here, too. I just learned that James Harman passed away. Most of you have likely never heard of him, but he left an indelible mark on my musical life. I remember seeing his EP “ Thank You Baby” in the used records when I worked at Dustys Records. Something intrigued me so I put it on the turntable. I was an instant fan of their harmonica forward blues/roots rock sound. Not long after we went to the Zoo Bar for the first time. We had no idea who would be playing. We just wanted to check it out. As luck would have it, James Harman Band was playing. By the end of the night, people were dancing on the tables! I was able to find one more LP of his called “Extra Napkins”. It was every bit as good as that EP. Over the years I would see him on a Live at the Zoo show on PBS. He was a regular and would often emcee and back other artists. I last got to see him at ZooFest 2 years ago. What a night! The Bottletops, James Harman and Mavis Staples on the same night! So sad he is gone, but so happy we crossed paths!

Rumble_Strip ★ Posted May 25, 2021 Share #3 Posted May 25, 2021 I loved his harmonica playing on ZZ Top's Waitin for the bus.
