Bike accidents suck!

I was talking to my brother a few days ago and he was telling me about a friend of his that had become an avid cyclist while living in Colorado.  It seems he was involved in a terrible cycling accident and was seriously injured.  He is now paralyzed from the waist down and is confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

This is one of my worst nightmares about cycling.

I wonder if he was bombing down a Colorado mountain at ludicrous speed?

I think my innate slowness and the flatness of NJ roads helps my odds a tad, but you never know when your number is up.  It probably is not all that wise to pursue our recreation on the roads. :(  It thoroughly pains me to say it, but maybe running has a slight advantage in the avoidance of major injury department.

Yes, and if I had two good knees, I would go back to running.  But that isn't an option for me.

Now that I think about it, cycling is more evil than running.  I destroyed my knee cycling, so now I can't run!
