  1. It’s too cold for roses. So, that’s not helping.
  2. @petitepedal, how’s it going? Did you get some protein? Did you crash? And reboot? Or, nap? When I eat a big carb load, I fall asleep.
  3. Sort of the idea. But it’s an app, not finger temperature, so it doesn’t change when you wash your hands.
  4. How many of your neighbors are armed and have told you they will protect theirs instead of helping others? On my street, four homes are armed: two police officers, one former Marine, and one enthusiast. I’ve canvassed for a GOP judge and for a DEM rep, so I know each home’s affiliation. We help each other with deliveries and watching when someone is out of town, but we haven’t talked about the need to defend our homes from each other. When I look around, this is who I see.
  5. The designer who did our kitchen said he has been busier than ever. More people want new kitchens and bathrooms, and they have money to spend.
  6. The documentary film Koyaanisqatsi (life out of balance) was released in 1982. Some measure of the beginnings of the “culture wars” date back to the early 20th century when birth control pills became available, and we’ve been at war almost continuously for over 100 years. I’m all for being realistic. That’s why I have a hard time believing you’re only now (at 75) feeling the tension of a life out of balance. The good people of the Cafe have posted some very uplifting, helpful commentary about resolution in the face of adversity. I’ll add a tool we used last year to address feelings of being overwhelmed. The mood meter app. Mood is a combination of energy and positivity. A good balance, and your mood will benefit. Too much or too little of either, and mood will shift. This mood meter tool can help a person sort it out and then take action to affect their energy or positivity. https://moodmeterapp.com/science/ I’m one of the people who want you here next year, too. It might mean doing some work. I think you’re worth it.
  7. I don’t know. Do you want your sweat to stink? Maybe some of @Old No. 7’s chorizo meatballs will help you take your sweat up a notch. A few years ago, one of my debaters visited family in India over the summer, and then changed his point of view about bathing. He smelled like a bull, which is the scent I think he was going for. Vegetarian, he was.
  8. I bought a soft and fluffy sweater, too magical to touch. When the attendant scanned the price tag, it came up “Mossy sweater.” No kidding.
  9. And did you give up on chemistry when all those elements were added to the Periodic Table?
  10. It’s a Wonderful Life, but Love Hard is now a close second.
  11. Of course. And hasn’t it ever been this way? The reality would suggest we are as unlikely as likely to succumb to these forces of mortality. Maybe even more unlikely, to be most realistic.
  12. Time for “the zoomies”? Take a walk and throw in a few super fast steps.
  13. Matthew 6:27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Cautious optimism, then? I agree that wishful thinking often leads to cynicism when our wishes clearly go unfulfilled. But reality includes room for optimism.

Good thinking. It’s nice to have that flexibility. We are probably going to travel to PHX in early January now that our kids are staying put with their Covid contacts.
  15. What’s your question? Used to by itself. Use to when paired with another verb, like didn’t use to…

IKR?! If I had your kind of miles on the bike, though.

I like that station. Making fudge and tamales today.
  18. MW breaks it down here: https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/is-it-used-to-or-use-to In short, the past participial used stands by itself. It carries the tense. If you’re adding another past participle, like did, then it carries the tense and pair it with the present form use.
  19. This. We go back through and reminisce, then toss into recycling.
  20. Did you notice there were no physics questions? That “silver and gold” topic came close, but nowhere near the frequency as when Mayim hosts.
  21. Offering info to help the good people of the Cafe discern which one if you resembles my remark. If they’re still struggling…
  22. StD’s plans to come for Christmas have now changed. Her husband had a close contact with co-workers, and so she’s going to stay in PHX. I finished buying gifts for them, and thankfully hadn’t gone grocery shopping, yet. I can box up the gifts to ship.
