Anybody on the forum have a Garmin In-Reach and plan?

@dennis likely uses something similar like a Spot or similar.  REI has some info on these sorts of things, but surely depends on how many bells and whistles one needs/wants.

I would think it is pretty much a required piece of equipment if folks back country ski alone or in small groups or do a lot of hiking in rocky and more dangerous secluded areas.  If you're alone and break a leg, it is much nicer to push the "Help" button than to hike out for several days.

The alternative is the Spot X. It's a little less expensive. The keyboard probably makes it easier to send a message, but the reviews are not as good as the inReach. Neither device is terribly intuitive.
