Awesome. Not as dramatic as that but a few years ago I was watching the mother of rainstorms from a window at work, the road outside is a steep hill, then suddenly the drain cover lids and a lot of surrounding earth and asphalt were blown out skywards, there's certainly a lot of power in water.

That is a shame for you, the original of that name, in the Channel Islands, is delightful, and famous for its early potatoes which I have been enjoying lately, Jersey Royals.
The canal side ad hoc camping is interesting: is it tolerated by the authorities? I cannot see that flying in the UK for longer than it takes to get some bailiffs round there.
