We're having work done on the first floor of the house, so we're mostly living upstairs right now until the dust settles. We head upstairs to relax in the evening and barricade the stairs, but last night, the pup did a jail break! She squeezed around the barrier unnoticed, and the next I saw her was her trotting from the stairs with the bag from the rotisserie chicken in her mouth. My wife had picked up a chicken, and tossed the wrapper in the trash. Normally, that trash is under the sink behind a cabinet door. But with the kitchen work, the trashcan was out in the corner, and my pup took notice of that fact! In fourteen years, she has NEVER gotten into the trash - kitchen, office, or bathrooms - and it was hilarious to think she went downstairs with knowledge that she had a goal in mind. BUT her inexperience shined through as rather than just hang out downstairs with free rein to go through the trash, she brought the evidence upstairs and past our bedroom and thus was revealed! THe chicken was pulled off and the carcass goes into a pot for broth. Just a good smell. And the pup is a PORKER right now. She's old enough that we are very lax on discipline now. At 14, I agree that restricting would kinda be futile, might as well get her a chicken anyway. I gave my dog a full beer on her birthday every year, along with sharing a steak with her. I always offer my drink to my dog - water, coffee, beer, whatever - and she looks at me like I am an idiot. Same look as when I offer her a vegetable. "WTF, dude?
