Popular Post Parsnip Totin Jack Posted October 13, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted October 13, 2017 So I went to the elementary school early, cause if you're not early, you're late. They had the entrance set up to drive in on the left and exit on the right, like I'm in England or something. WTF? I went the wrong way and drove over some traffic cones. After fixing them while the cop laughed I went inside. I'm the first volunteer there. They don't have my badge and neither did work. We look in a few places with no luck, the will order a new badge for me and I sign in and get a visitor name tag. The kids start coming trouble the door. They're so young and excited to be there. So cute. Nothing like the surly mouth breathers they'll become in high school. Other volunteers arrive and complain about finding parking. Note to self, arrive early again next time. we go to our assigned kindergarten rooms and each pick up three adorable kids. We go to the cafeteria and sit together to play a board game which focuses on letters and numbers. We make introductions. Malachi, Victoria, and Zarah. My name is Jack. "Like the beanstalk?" "Yes, like the beanstalk" they laugh at that and Malachi asks if I'm Jack of said beanstalk. I told him yes, that after I cut down the beanstalk I had to get a job and here I am. We laughed over that. We played a few rounds of this board game, talked Halloween and kittens and breakfast. Malachi was hungry and wanted breakfast. I took them back to the classroom and signed out. A good day at the school. I'm looking into being a mentor for an at-risk older student. They seem to need mentors. 5
jsharr Posted October 13, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 13, 2017 You are a good egg and this thread made me happy. Does the school offer breakfast? It is surprising to read the numbers of kids that do not get a good breakfast, even in seemingly well to do areas.

I also got the impression from him that they weren't doing it fast enough for him. Suck it up buttercup, if it's coming it's coming.
