  7. They sure do a lot of damage in the garden. It used to be that they would stay back away from the buildings. Now there are so many and they are so tame that they are all around the buildings. I guess we should put more of them in the freezer.
  8. I don't think they were our horses. Ours got tangled in the fence and pulled 3 posts out of the soft ground. They didn't even get out of the pasture but we didn't want to leave with no fence along the one side of the pasture. The corner post was also damaged so we had to repair 2 sides. I walked the rest of the fence and tested the electric. They now have a good working electric fence again. It may not have been the horses that damaged it. There were a lot of deer tracks through the pasture. May have been the deer and not the horses that tore it down.
  9. I got to walk 2 miles. Several trips around the horse fence. Sunday morning building a new fence.
  10. Ready and left for church this morning. Pulling out of the driveway we saw that the horses had torn the pasture fence down. Returned to the house, changed clothes and built fence. By the time we were back in the house, cleaned up and back in good clothes it was time to leave to go to South Bend. Christmas gift from our daughters and their families. Dinner at the Emporium and then Celtic Woman concert at the Morris. Great meal and concert. On a farm the unexpected adventures have to be expected. Building fence is just what you want to do on a Sunday morning. Oh well, I guess the 2 miles of walking around the fence was good for me.
  11. Yes, Not sure if my friend from Greenville SC will be there or not.
  12. We had a good laugh with the guys who were there promoting the Fallen Timbers National Historical Site. One of them made a comment about how I was limping and had a walking stick because of my torn tendons in my ankle. I told him my problem was that I was a blacksmith with General Anthony Wayne's army when they were going from Fallen Timbers back to Fort Defiance. One of the solders got in the rum and shot me in the leg. He is buried along the Maumee River somewhere east of Defiance, Ohio. His body will never be found.
  13. The Kalamazoo Living History Show was very interesting and very crowded. The crazy guy in the green coat is a friend of mine. and one from the kid's activities.

  18. We ran about 300-400 taps and were cooking 24 hours a day at peak run. With the RO the Amish family are running 600 taps and cooking less than 8 hours a day.
  19. He built his own. It isn't that hard. Then he finishes it in my 2x8 ft King evaporator. The small one is a 2x4 ft.
  20. It was moving by it's own power?
  21. You should dream about train whistles. They are a lot more fun.
  22. So sorry Aire. I don't think I could do your job.
  23. 4 gallons of new syrup. The last 8 years we have a deal with some Amish neighbors. They use our cooker and we get syrup. Last year they added reverse osmosis so now they only have to do about 20% of the cooking they did before. The last 2 years they have made over 200 gallons. I still have our original smaller evaporator but haven't used it for a few years. When we made 200 gallons we had to cook 24 hours a day with both evaporators. RO has really cut the work down.
