  1. I got home a while ago. I've been taking it easy. I remember that you posted about you eye problems. If I recall you were /are on blood thinners. And that fubar'd the healing of the eye. My eye is STILL dilated They must have used some industrial strength stuff for that. When that goes back to normal... that will help. In any case, things are more in focus now than they have been for months. We spent maybe 1 1/2 hours at the eye clinic. Probably 45 minutes waiting in the reception area. The only unusual question from the nurse prepping me for the surgery, was during the blood pressure test. "Are you anxious? I told her of course. I wanted to say HELL YES. I'd guess the doc worked on me for maybe 10 minutes. I lost track of time... I just tried to stare at the ceiling. I get to visit another doc for a follow up exam tomorrow. Over all... it wasn't too bad. So when (not if) the right eye needs to get done, I won't be so worried.
  2. From the article; In November, the average interest paid over the life of a new-car loan reached a record $8,436, and the average interest paid over the life of a used-car loan reached an all-time high of $10,204 And that's why I pay myself instead. This...
  3. I bet you haven't purchsed Cracker Jack recently. It's been a long time since we did. The prize has changed. (more like dissaperwad) Back to our bag of modern-day Cracker Jack. Alas, there is no toy prize inside any more. Instead, it has been replaced by a small piece of cardboard that's about half the size of a credit card. Peel it open, and there is a cartoon-like picture on the inside. Match that picture with one on the Cracker Jack. link
  4. Not sure... A while ago, I read auto leasing has been in a decline over the last few years. I just found this article. https://www.kbb.com/car-news/few-of-us-lease-cars-anymore-that-could-change-in-2023/
  5. Thinking about safety training... I remembered this When I worked at a coal burning power plant for a while we got trained in how to fight fires. In a remote area on the property, a contractor would come in and set up his stuff. He'd start a fire, and we took turns putting out real fires. How to use a fire extinguisher and which one to use, etc... Some were also trained to use fire hoses, for the big fires.
  6. Nope.. I had no idea. Not sure when this was published. But 20% more for the same car. https://diytransport.com/comparison-between-u-s-and-canada-vehicle-prices/
  7. I agree. I just save for the next car. And that's why I still have my 2010 Subaru Forester. I'm waiting until I can justify spending a 30K to 40K on any car. I can pay a lot for repairs and that is still WAY cheaper than a new car.
  8. Yean been dong eye drops for 2 days now. And 4 more weeks after the surgery.
  9. That's the plan. I told the doc... I've worn glasses since 2nd grade. When many people I know got LASIK surgery, I didn't do that, because I didn't want anyone cutting into my eyes. That always scared the shit out of me. And now I I get to do this... He told me, after the anesthesiologist does his thing... you won't care.
  10. Yes. Everyone at our company got LOTS of safety training and that induced CPR. We also had AED training. I was a safe driver instructor for a year or 2.
  11. on my left eye. This will be my first eye for this procedure. Both eyes have cataracts, but over the last year the left eye got bad fast. For the last several months... the "E" (top row) on this eye chart was THE only thing I could even attempt to read with my left eye. The right eye is still working just fine. Getting old sucks...
  12. Our fleet of cars are all good to go. Sometime this year; The 2010 Subaru Forester will need the front and rear differential oil changed, and the transmission oil changed too. The 1997 Honda Prelude will need an oil change. This reminds me... I need to put the battery tender back on the battery. It will be parked for a while. The 2016 Toyota Prius is good till the fall, oil change and rotate tires.
  13. Or... they are all agreeing to take all they can. I got that beat... I'm older and use 1% of my monthly data limit. I have Mediacom cable and no other choices, except satellite. Mediacom extorts me for $89.99 a month for 300 Mbps and 1500 GB.
  14. Ketchup Hotdogs... not very often. Bratwurst and spicy mustard and onions
  15. We walk our 2 dogs just about every day in the morning. ! 1/2 miles is typical. In the spring and fall when it's not too hot or too cold, 3 to 5 miles from time to time. The only times we don't walk is when it's too cold. Tomorrow morning it will be 8 here. That's when the dogs start lifting their paws when they are out in the snow. Too cold for their paws. And we don't walk when it's raining. A soaking wet and/or muddy dog... that's tooo much like work cleaning the dog and possibly the house.
  16. exactly... When they get nervous... You may want to stay inside.
  17. So just a dusting of snow...
  18. In a year maybe two... the 2010 Subaru Forester may get replaced. (I'm still not sure... I can buy a LOT of gas for the price of any new car.) If it does get replaced, As of now, the Toyota RAV4 Prime would be my choice. Of course with a trailer hitch. The RAV4 Prime can go maybe 38 miles on a battery charge. 90% of the time that's more than we drive in a day. And for longer trips it's a hybrid. Based on Toyota's hybrid reliability, I'd guess the car would last me for MANY years. The thing I LOVE about the Subaru... with the snow rated all season tires, and it's AWD system, it is an awesome car for winter driving. That is one BIG reason for keeping the car.
  19. My 2005 Prius... I owned it for 11 years and 2 months. I drove it for 260,815 miles. The hybrid battery was never changed. For the life of the car I averaged 46 mpg. It was THE most reliable car I ever owned. My 2016 Prius... is even better than the 2005. More comfortable, even less maintenance cost, and gets better gas mileage, so far 53 mpg for the life of the car at 80,353 miles.
  20. From the link... The course runs 135 miles along a snowmobile trail from International Falls south to Tower. Competitors can run, ski or bike, and those who finish can take two days.

    I need help

I haven't watched a football game in years. I have no idea who in the playoffs. And that's OK.

You can cheer for the Bears. Yeah... I know.. that will never happen. So Go Pack Go... works.
  23. I'd suggest a large dog for this. He/she can follow you on the trail. The dog MUST be trained to always come back to you when you call. https://ruffwear.com/blogs/explored/5-tips-for-mountain-biking-with-your-dog Our Jack Russel (if it wasn't 15) probably cold run up to 30 mph. Not sure how long he could do that. Even at 15 years old that little guy is FAST. God forbid he isn't on a leash, I may neve see him again. He gets on a scent and GOES...
  24. That depends... We have had large dogs for years. Sam was 126 pounds (Great Dane/German Shepard mix). Now we have 2 small dogs. It's all luck for us... we rescue dogs and when we get a new dog we get the one that needs to be rescued. One thing I've noticed... our small dogs need to go outside a lot more often than our large dogs did. Our Jack Russel (at 18 pounds) needs to go outside during the day on average once every 2 hours. If he drinks a lot of water... maybe he will go outside in an hour. Our large dogs... 6 hours inside was no problem for them. We don't have a fence. I take the dogs out on a 26 foot long leash. We go with the leash that rated for 110 pounds. It fits my hand better with gloves on in the winter, and our next dog may be large. That's exactly why our Jack Russel and Beagle are ALLAYS on a leash. Both have proven, off leash if they find a scent... they can run down that scent for a LONG time and distance. Our large dogs actually would listen and come back when we called. Our first Beagle did that. He lived with our daughter in TN. She went to work, and left Bruno out in the fenced in yard. She came home, he had burrowed under 3 or 4 different fences and was in the backyard of a neighbor. Bruno came to live with us when our daughter moved to a place that didn't allow dogs.
