    My father took me to a NHL hockey game when I was 6. Flyers vs. Montreal at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, 1977. I was immediately hooked. We went to college games at Princeton often, but cheered for Cornell.

    Mick’s doing just fine despite his heart valve surgery this spring. I think he’s 76 years old now, but still very active with good range.

    No, I’ll be going out to dinner to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Last time we really dressed up was a few years ago, we had a Halloween costume wedding. We did Octoberfest attendees.

    Do DH rules follow the stadium in MLB? Do pitchers hit when in the NL ballpark, but DH hits in AL parks? If so, I think that favors National League managers who are used to making more situational substitutions. Although not in this series.

    July, 2030 is the soonest I can tap my retirement savings without penalty. So some combination of personal savings and later part time work will need to bridge me from my current full time work situation to the life of retired leisure.

    The shooting was a year ago today. The synagogue is torn between pressing for a life in prison plea deal to get rapid justice, or the years long process of the current plan to seek the death penalty. Kids wearing “Pitt Strong” with stars of David seen at the Pitt/Miami football game today.

    I went to a Dead show once. Didn’t buy tickets. Didn’t go in. Ate acid, ate burritos, and drank good beer. It was a good time, probably because we didn’t go in.

    My dog woke me up at 3 am, he wanted to drink water and go outside. I got back to sleep sometime after 5 am, then up at 7:30.
