You may improve, but what I learned early is that I can beat say 75-80% of people playing chess. But, I can only beat (more often than not) a "chess player" maybe 10-20% of the time (probably less). When you play on-line and establish a rating level, those are pretty close, so when you hit someone with a higher rating? You lose. Or, at least I did. If I went into a match with someone near my rating, I had a shot, but those with much higher ratings crushed me.
You should consider an on-line chess group and/or playing the one on the computer and bumping up or down the difficulty. You'll get better and your hubby won't have as much insight into your style of play. You may learn a few cool moves from those random folks on-line.
Maybe @MickinMD has a suggestion or two for online play - sites, apps, whatever.
