  1. No thanks. I will wait until they rebuild the rail line. Always like a nice cog train.
  2. We have a couple along various bike trails that are 'official' pit stops. One of them in particular is on a short timer. Not taking a lot of time, standing at the urinal and suddenly the lights go out. Have to flail your arms around wildly to get them to come back on.

Yes. St Augustine. Anastasia State Park. Very local to St Augustine. From harbor inlet down to pier where public beach starts. Just a couple blocks from lighthouse. Taking A1A beach road home as far as Daytona. One of my favorite drives.

As a pack rat, I still have the canvas Coleman bought is 1970’s up in attic. Water bleeds through even on first trip as we discovered. Canvas has probably rotted by now and afraid to assemble.

This was kind of a test. Probably a couple more in tent then look at RV. Particurally if my correct book writing project is successful as have follow up which is local but other ideas require travel.

First time in decades. Pulled the tent out the attic and survived the night.
  8. I show them the license and tell them it is my evil twin brother. Pure evil. you don't want to do anything to piss him off.
  9. Hasenpfeffer with cabbage and a good German beer.
  10. That could have had serious consequences. While my BIL and his wife are vegetarian (not strict vegan) over time, they have lost the enzyme to process meat. We would visit his (and my wife's) elderly aunt (90+ y/o and now deceased) who had to be the 'perfect hostess' and fix something despite the fact we ate enroute. She wasn't aware of their diet which wouldn't conincide with her 'special dishes' anyway. To be kind, while proclaiming they were stuffed from the earlier meal, would sample. The drive home was particularly difficult as they could not process what they sampled.
  11. When I lived in Phoenix, never went to Vegas even with the free hotel junkets. Driving, it is almost a straight shot out Grand Ave and about as far as the Grand Canyons which went to many times. The closest I ever got was on a red eye flight from San Francisco to Orlando and had to change planes in Vegas (which seems strange - no direct flights, or changing in a major hub like Dallas or Atlanta). Did hit the one arm bandits while waiting.
  12. "Wawa is a gold mine!" I can get these at Wawa...
  13. They have aggressively expanded here. Didn't know what they were about, just the hoopla "Wawa's coming" As far as fast food convenience stores, they are not bad and their biggest competitor is probably Racetrack which I would peg a notch below Wawa. There are 3 of them within 4 miles of me, with the newest one about a mile away. We have an awkward 120 degree corner outside our neighborhood that the owners keep trying to get zoned commercial and had pegged Wawa as a buyer. During the re-zoning hearing, the nearest neighbors were opposing. Wawa looked around and said "If the neighbors don't want us, we don't want to be there" and walked out. Really have to respect that as it reflects their corporate culture. Don't shop there (or any convenience store) often but they do have ethanol free fuel and when I drove the VW, generally the lowest price on diesel.
  14. Didn't want to tag onto Old#7's post. Woke up this morning to learn that Wendy Chioji died. She was a local and popular newscaster who was part of the core group of cyclist in Lance Armstrong's cross country cancer ride/fundraiser. She later left her anchor position on the evening news, moving to Park City, Utah developing a sports training business as she continued her pursuits and enjoyment of life. https://www.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment/tv-guy/os-et-wendy-chioji-dies-20191008-xl7cigregzavlgbf4tqdnbyw2a-story.html
  15. Waldo? There are no Moose in the south, just deer, squirrel, and possums. Also, never hear of a southerner name Ralph. Although could have been re-named that when developed an inability to hold down one's liquor (shine).
  16. I'm named after a silent film star but it wasn't intentional as I know why I have the name I have. Just found the reference to the film star when I googled my name. I was actually named after my grandfather who died a few years before my generation (my 1st cousins) were born. It was a pact that my mother had with her 3 brothers that the first born male would be named after their father. I have two older female cousins. Of course, since was my mother's side, I don't have the same last name as my grandfather.
  17. Burn em, Burn em with fire! Oh wait, it is not that type of fireplace box.
  18. Bait? Lures? Only amateurs use them. I caught two bass with my bare hand - and I wasn't even fishing at the time. Out waterskiing and saw them on the surface, so let go and glided over to them. One tried to eat the other and was stuck, both flapping around on the surface. While I had heard of it, first time actually seeing it.
  19. I know where I am going to take my mountain bike this weekend. This is as close as we get to fall colors. For three weeks or so these flowers bloom along the norther shore of Lake Jessup. The flats are actually cow pastures which progress into woods, and many years are underwater - which is how the seeds got here in the first place. With hurricane flooding, they swept up the St John's River and concentrated into Lake Jessup and were trapped, but has been dry this year with no major storms hitting flood stage. The plants are around 8' high, lifting tripod over head for area view photos. On a bike, very narrow single track following cow trails.
  20. It's worse. The other Don is coming to The Villages today.
  21. One time I found a $10 bill...in about seven feet of water as I was snorkeling. And then there was the practical joke. As I was a bagboy at Winn Dixie, went to work about 15 minutes early not checked in yet. All personnel were in the back break room as I went to put my tie on. We had a 60+ y/o employee everyone called Pops - even the store manager, and he called everyone Junior. Suddenly they call for assistance to take someone's groceries out and Pops looks at me and say "Junior, go get that." when I wasn't even clocked in yet. I went and took the groceries out then took some cash out my wallet and crammed it in my pocket. Then I went back and wove a story. "Pop, I couldn't believe it. Took one bag of groceries out for this little old lady who drone a 1940's Cadillac and she tipped me $1. I couldn't belive it. I thanked her and stuffed it in my pocket." Then I pull this wadded bill out of my pocket, and unroll it. "Ten Dollars!!!!!!" ?
  22. I don't know, the were speaking French. And, seriously, I can't speak enough to eavesdrop. But they were way out of line as had been standing there gabbing as we approached and was 4 to 6 feet away from them on what is essentially a busy walkway a block from the train station. As wife, grandson an I were walking back to the house (another 3/4 mile) with groceries, one lady talking to the two with their back to me apparently saw me lean down and pick up the cash, alerting the other two.
  23. I can't tolerate coins littering the landscape and it is my responsibility to pick them up. A few months ago along a public pathway, my wife and I were talking. There was a group of three ladies about 4 feet away also talking. I see a coin at my feet and bend down to pick it up. Suddenlly the ladies stopped talking and the two with their back to us turned around and stared giving us a piece of their mind. Sometimes it is good not to be ale to speak French and speak in English which shuts them up.
