TrentonMakes Posted October 9, 2014 Share #7 Posted October 9, 2014 that song was my introduction to REM. I remember blasting that song (as loud as my crappy Mercury Lynx's speakers would let me) during the summer of '89.

jsharr ★ Posted October 9, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted October 9, 2014 Mercury Lynx? Wow! I don't feel so bad anymore....I had a craptacular brown Chevy citation...the AM radio was sideways in the dash.....truly a peice of automotive shit. But at least it wasnt a lynx. My first car was a 1976 Chevy Nova coupe. 305 2bbl V-8 Silver with red cloth interior. Back in the days when there as a rectangular cut out for the radio face and two holes for the radio shafts. First stereo was a Pioneer and all I remember is that it was AM / FM cassette and had PLL (phase lock loop) tuning to cut down on picket fencing. Not sure why that stuck with me. Had Pioneer 6905 or 6907 6x9 three way speakers under the rear shelf and some Pioneer tunable tweeters on the dash, not in the dash. Also had a high powered cheap ass Lear Jet equalizer hooked up to it. Thought I was bad ass.

TrentonMakes Posted October 9, 2014 Share #13 Posted October 9, 2014 Mercury Lynx? Wow! I don't feel so bad anymore.... The Lynx (a rebadged Ford Escort) was a really good car - mine was an '83, bought for $1000 with 81K miles. I put almost 40K on it in two years. My parents had a good experience with their '82 Escort as well. My first car (the '70 Malibu) was a bad decision but the Lynx was a good one. Plus it was so slow, and it handled so poorly, that I didn't do stupid things with it while I was in college. A friend of mine drove a Citation with the sideways radio. That car was a POS. I remember blasting that song (as loud as my crappy Mercury Lynx's speakers would let me) during the summer of '89. I remember it fondly as the theme song to "Get a Life".
