Popular Post MickinMD ★ Posted April 3, 2022 Popular Post Share #1 Posted April 3, 2022 Brian's upper left lung lobe and its cancerous tumor (possibly killed by radiation/chemo) were removed on 3/23, he recovered fast and was sent home on 3/28, and he hasn't needed to use oxygen at home beginning 4/2. But he's in a lot of pain due to a 9" incision (pics below) and bad bruising of the ribs under it, which were spread far apart to get to the lung. Perhaps this coming week or next week at the latest, we'll get the biopsy on the removed tissue. If it's negative, that's fantastic. If it's positive, it's still highly likely there's no more cancerous tissue in his body and the doctors at Johns Hopkins have scheduled no more chemo or radiation or cancer meds because they feel he's cured of cancer, though frequent future testing will be done to confirm it. Brian feels very fortunate his wife, my sister Donna, retired recently from one of the world's top hospitals where he got red-carpet treatment! He's limited to lifting no more than 8 lbs for at least a month. He is supposed to use oxygen if his blood oxygen saturation falls below 90%: it's 95% while resting and has occasionally dropped slightly below 90% if he walks around for a couple minutes, but he hasn't bothered to use it because it jumps back up over 90% quickly when he sits or lies down. He's using a Pulse Oximeter that clips around a finger and almost instantly measures the blood oxygen. Brian says breathing feels funny because only the right side of his chest expands and contracts a lot: the single lobe on the left side (we only have two there to start) doesn't push the chest up very much. Here's the 9" scar on his left back and side as of yesterday, 4/2: He says, "People ask, what level of pain are you in? Level? There's no fucking 'level.' I'm either in a lot of pain or Oxycontin knocks it out or reduces it for 4-5 hours Happy to leave Johns Hopkins Hospital Monday, 3/28 after surgery on Wednesday, 3/23 4

donkpow Posted April 3, 2022 Share #4 Posted April 3, 2022 I bet he will lose some weight in the coming months. Not a bad thing if he eats well.
