I love this time of year. Sometimes I'll just grab a beer and sit on the porch and watch Hummingbird Wars. There's always one that takes over the feeder, who we christen "Hitler", but this year, Hitler is a female. 

I also had to laugh at the male who chased a female off the feeder and then started doing the U-shaped courtship flight thing.

"Uh, dude, that's not how you go about getting some....."

I remember in my teens, camping in the Rockies, we had one we called the Red Baron, due to colors and flight behavior.  Chased all the males and females off the Coke can feeder we made until he'd gotten first dibs.

I read somewhere that the birds who guard the feeders often die during migration. The spend so much energy guarding the thing that they don't build up the extra grams of weight needed for the long trip.
