...and you would be correct.  There's a native dogwood species here that grows in mixed conifer forests at somewhere around 4-6000 foot elevations.  You have to know where to look, but once you find a stand of them, they're pretty widespread in that area. These are right off the south fork of the Yuba, near lake Bowman.
