  1. I believe he’s being funny, pretending not to know Ohio State University is in Columbus. And no, private colleges aren’t inherently better, just smaller and more expensive.
  2. Smashingly, I would imagine. At least if I had both.
  3. Two trees? Where is Webby when we need to get rid of one? All you need is salt... and a hose?
  4. I have to admit, this is a part of pop culture that I was never aware of. “The Tamagotchi (たまごっち, IPA: [tamaɡotꜜtɕi]) is a handheld digital pet that was created in Japan by Akihiro Yokoi of WiZ and Aki Maita of Bandai. It was released by Bandai on November 23, 1996 in Japan and on May 1, 1997 in the rest of the world, quickly becoming one of the biggest toy fads of the late 1990s and the early 2000s.”
  5. It would also be likely to take a couple of days after exposure until the test would be reliable, if one had become infected. Test too soon and there are false negatives.
  6. no change to holiday plans. I already had cancelled the FIL from coming to dinner as the older boy returns from college this weekend.
  7. She’s positive. But my employer says I am clear to return to work, and only need a test if I start having symptoms. It seems a little risky to me.
  8. Yes, with distance and my own mask factored in. I’m not as relaxed as they are, their motives and my health aren’t at all synonymous. I sneezed, and I coughed once in the last half hour. I’m going a bit . But at least I get to do it remotely today, my manager made that decision.
  9. No, I don’t want to pay for a health system that would sit at 50% occupancy for 99 years at a time, only hitting maximal capacity with a mass infectious illness once a century. I’d rather mask, distance, wash, avoid gatherings and generally stay home once in a century. Even if it takes over a year.
  10. To a person who was awaiting their Covid test results. 20 minutes into the conversation before she shared that fact. She wasn’t masked, but I was and I maintained about 6’ distance throughout. My employee health says low risk and ok to return to work without a test. But geebus, maybe make that you’re awaiting a test result be your opening statement?!? Oh, and she is Positive.
  11. Oh, no, I haven’t gotten them. I got some unsolicited political texts to my work phone in October, but nothing worth looking at, even at a glance.
  12. I don’t answer my personal phone if the caller isn’t in my contacts list. I do answer all calls for my work phone. So I suspect my work phone gets added to a lot of lists every time I answer a call that’s for my car’s warranty, even though I’ve never used the phone number outside of business contacts. My personal phone drops these calls to spam.
  13. Tell him you’re clumsy and fell down the stairs.
  14. I’m also hearing a lot of staff shortage issues. To the point of discussing can covid positive, mildly ill doctors and nurses work with Covid positive patients. And staff quitting due to impossible work conditions. Seems like shortages abound.
  15. We’re at over 250,000 deaths, at over a 2% death rate despite 9 months worth of efforts (at least in some places) to “flatten the curve”. So I’m not sure of your maths. I know I can’t remember a time when entire states’ hospitals and ICUs are filled to capacity and setting up field tent units.
  16. I like being able to leave the office while in a meeting and continue it on the phone as I drive. In the past I’d be stuck in the office with in-person meetings. This is pretty liberating. I hope to NEVER have to go back to large in-person work gatherings.
  17. Take-out/delivery 1 or two times a week. Chinese, Thai, pizza or Indian, probably in that order. I’d like to do it less, but my wife gets bored/restless and wants something tasty and without any work.
  18. I’m working. I told my wife that her dad shouldn’t come. We’ll have one kid newly home from College, who knows what he’ll bring with him. So it will be the four of us, once I get home.
  19. I believe Phase III is testing against known standard of care. So... yeah.
  20. I won’t identify Subway as the MOST popular fast food chain for anyone, and yet it seems to be my State’s most popular fast food option. I guess it’s healthier than Hawaii’s.
  21. What was the issue there? I know about the early polio fauxpaus.... What you have to keep in mind is the technology involved... these vaccines don’t have any virus in them, just proteins that create an immune response but nothing whole that could inadvertently be underkilled.
