Who here has actually seen an apple fall from a tree?  I've picked a lot of apples from trees in my life, but can't say I spotted any falling.  Dropped by me? Maybe - so I'd call it "dropping from the tree" but a case could be made it "fell" as well.  In any case, I don't think "millions" is easily defensible.

I don't think Newton saw it coming.  According to the story the apple hit him on the head.

Think about that.  If Newton had been looking up and dodged the apple, it wouldn't have hit him on the head and we wouldn't have gravity today.
