Popular Post Zealot Posted May 23, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted May 23, 2017 You're thread yesterday, especially in light of my coworkers' accident, had me thinking deeply last night. And still this morning. This man isnt the type of person to lay down and quit. From what I know of him, he will push no matter what. Yes, he'll have dark moments; dark days. But he'll find purpose, he'll find himself. This video is truly one of the most powerful things I've ever listened to: This is why I can't quit. This why I push myself. Whatever passion I have is a testament to the glory I find in the life given me. I don't kniw what my furture holds. I don't desire to be crippled in body. But worse than that for me is to be crippled in my spirit; my heart. Death is certain, but life is in every breath we draw. I will do my best to live with every breath. As I mentioned in your thread, whatever choice you make, make peace with it. But choose for the right reasons. Don't let fear drive you. There is no right or wrong in this. And no judgment from me. Just thoughts and passion in my heart. I was very fearful child. It took most of my early adult life to break loose from so many of those fears; things that held me back. And as I age and watch abilities begin to wane, it takes diligence not to allow some of those fears to creep back in. Live with purpose. I have had 3 crashes that ended up with me in the hospital and going through multiple surgeries. That stuff never scared me. I always got right back on the bike as soon as I was able. I have had plenty of pain. I deal with it. I do not fear death, at least no more than what is sufficient to keep me alive. What I do fear is being incapacitated to the point of not being able to take care of myself. That time may come no matter what, but I fear that ten times more than death. Some people (some quite famous) have lived and thrived in that condition, but I absolutely want no part of it. Zealot, I appreciate your thoughts and words, but at some point in life, if we live long enough, we are all confronted with choices we don't want to make. Sometimes we have to be willing and unafraid to give up one thing in favor of another based on rational thought and consideration of all the options and their associated pluses and minuses. It isn't fear. It's good sense. I hope. I was happy and fulfilled before I started cycling about 15 years ago. I can be happy without it in the future, especially if I feel that for me at least, the risks far outweigh the rewards.

And I hope I go out with my boots on.
Ralphie ★ Posted May 23, 2017 Share #7 Posted May 23, 2017 I think big decisions are best taken under advisement. (That is fancy high fallutin' talk for procrastination. )
