I really suck at the snatch

I can usually get it up OK, but I feel that I don't have enough explosion.

 

I don't go down quick enough either.  And I really don't have the flexibility yet to land my snatch in a squat.

 

But as ugly as it was, I worked the snatch pretty hard this morning.

Are you trying to push too hard?  Are you getting a solid firm grip of the snatch?  How many snatches were you able to do today?

Of course I am trying to push too hard.  I have spent a lot of time trying to find the correct grip of the snatch, how wide I should place my hands when I grip the snatch in relation to my hips and always use a hook grip when griping the snatch. 

 

I did 5 sets of 4 snatches today.  So I guess 20 snatches?  Not including the snatches that I did to warm up.

My knees and hips won't let me even consider doing those. Simple squats and lunges have become challenging enough.

I've never done classic dead lifts either 'cuz I'm not sure of proper form. I do Romanian deads; just interested in hams/glutes for deads anyway.
