  1. So sorry for your loss, Further.
  2. It already has. A 1% mortality rate for non-Covid deaths has been linked to hospital system over crowding during the pandemic. Can’t get an ICU bed, can’t get dialysis… some can’t even get an EMT crew to their house in a timely fashion. And Omicron hospital admissions and deaths have started to rise.
  3. Ah yes. The days of kids being allowed to openly smoke at high school. And the teachers lounges being completely filled with smoke.
  4. I learned to ski in the Poconos. Although it was January and on ice.
  5. Put it in the back yard and watch from the kitchen window. 👍
  6. I’m frankly surprised that infrastructure hasn’t become a huge terror target. Just look at the damage the Ever Given caused simply getting stuck in the Suez Canal. So many important bridges and tunnels, so difficult to protect.
  7. At the end of the day, we’ll all circle back. The new normal will be the same as ever. That being said, I don’t care. The next catch phrases will be as grating as the current ones.
  8. You’re as good a person to ask as anyone I know, @denniS…. How do solo free climbers get down? They repel down the mountain face they just ascended? They wander down the “easy side of the mountain? There’s some kind of shuttle service waiting at the top? Non-alpinists want to know. Ok, I think I know they repel, but how much hardware do they have to leave on a mountain? That stuff looks spendy!
  9. Congratulations on the correct spelling. I think. The NYT didn’t spell it this way earlier. But I think you are right.
  10. You do you is the statement of ultimate frustration with wasting your time talking to someone. It has a lot of value, with occassional usage.
  11. I tend to prefer not going out again after I get home. Getting paper products delivered tomorrow for the same price as driving to the grocery store is a “win” as viewed from my kitchen window.
  12. Back to School shopping in elementary school usually was Sears and JC Penny shopping at the mall. I hated those stores and their resulting clothes.
  13. Depends upon how fast you’re going. A little wiggle at high speeds can become increasingly unstable.
  14. I’ve only met Couch and Tude. Couch sounded like regular Ohioan. I don’t really remember Tude’s, I just met her once.
  15. 11. “Let’s start with a win.” From my kitchen window, this is the worst of all corporate speak. I cringe every time it is said in a meeting.
  16. I once skied in a t-shirt in Courmayeur, Italy. Beautiful day. Another great day was in Telluride following a 24” dump, crystal blue skies and warm temps followed the storm. I think we got down to just a shell jacket.
  17. The science doesn’t support this habit, but if the theory promotes some tasty food, I’m ok with thAt!
  18. She can come by and make you a sandwich periodically?
  19. I have no idea if this applies to my work place or not. We’re still mask-mandated by my employer, and to my knowledge mostly vaxed and boosted, so I actually don’t know how much it matters if we’d detect a few asymptomatic positive people? They’re pretty low risk transmitters in that setting. Certainly more risk after work at a bar or restaurant, but not at work.
  20. You can, but it’s a much more limited illness. Contagious for a shorter period of time, too.
  21. People will twist a narrative to support their desires. But I think it’s safe to say your Covid symptoms were milder because you were vaxed, and I didn’t get it when my wife did because I had gotten my booster when she had not. Avoiding hospitalization or worse has always been the goal of the vaccine. It’s still doing that.
  22. I think the Jones have a more environmentally conscious camper that leaves them more connected with their natural surroundings.
