In 1911, the British Scott and the Norwegian Roald Amundsen each had set up teams and the were trying to beat each other to be the first to the South Pole. Scott did very little preparation but was determined he could do it. Amundsen spent time with Eskimos and learned which hides warmed them but shed moisture, what they ate, and did a major study. He carefully figured for food use, including eating the dogs if necessary. When Scott got to the South Pole, the Norwegian flag was flying there. He and his team never got back to their base alive, running out of supplies and freezing to death. Give me knowledge, not zeal without it.
