  8. yes, you see a lot of very distinctive barns and old buildings and stuff like that. Lancaster County across the river is Amish country proper. In York county our farmers drive tractors and northern York county where I am is a lot of woods and hills. The grounds not really conducive to building houses on. these hills form the southern wall of the Cumberland Valley. the whole Appalachian chain bends right around here, so these hills don't form the characteristic "endless ridges" that you find in the rest of Pennsylvania. They actually are more like individual hills. It makes the roads very interesting to ride. Always up and down, left and right, steep hills smacking you in the face every 20 minutes and then screaming down a winding ribbon of chipseal. Then you can get clear of the mountains and get out in to the rolling valleys I just love it here

  19. Well....that is better than my ears. I am mostly deaf in both ears and could definitely use an cochlear implant....but nah. I am already retired now from work so what the heck. Most people don't have that much worth listening to anyways.

  20. Smithville, Ohio. Really a great year around cycling area. I belong to two racing, touring, mtb and cyclocross cycling clubs. I get to ride into the world largest Amish community in Wayne, and Holmes counties area. Which has lots of quiet, bucolic and hilly countryside roads.

  32. you know, if that's the worst of it, just say hello back and let them get on down the road. Its just easier that way in the long run I had to explain to somebody here that just because I'm not singing "oh, what a beautiful morning" doesn't mean there's anything wrong. They expected me to match their happy, cheerful, smiling like an idot mood or they were insulted. I tried to explain that in a free society you have to allow people to live how they please, even if you don't agree with them. went over like lead bricks yep, its just easier to say "hello" back and get them on down the road to happyland or wherever the hell they are headed

  38. Having had foreign cars for my last 5 cars, I invested in a Torx bit set a long time ago, it has come in handy countless times. WoPOLD's POS Dodge Grand Caravan had lots of Torx bolts and a mish mash of SAE and Metric just to piss you off and make sure you had every socket and bit set known to man and mechanic. I do agree with you, if you don't seat the Torx bits properly you can very easily strip out the bolt, but if you have them seated properly you can torque the hell out of the bolt.

  39. ok, here's something to remember....You can eat and drink all you want or can get, but if that stuff doesn't hit your blood, it won't matter hint: peanut butter takes a very long time to digest. find foods that work. Everybody is different, but I don't like meat or fats (like peanut butter) before I ride. I do like cream cheese sandwhiches on my homemade bread. so for me, peanut butter doesn't work, cream cheese does. Doesn't make any sense, it just is what it is. But you have to find this stuff out for you. never heard of perpetuem solids, but stuff like that and gels, I like Clif bars alot...but try different stuff until you find what works. It takes time. It took me probably 3 years to figure out that 1 Clif bar and 1 gel = 3 hours but you have to work it out by trial and error also, what you have eaten in the last few days matters when you are going to go to your limit and don't just use performance food. Actual food can work, too. In fact, on a long day there comes a time when I'm sick of all the performance food and just want to eat a Little Debbie oatmeal cookie or some Oreos or something the final thought is to remind you that it is bad luck to eat anything your don't normally eat when you are riding a century, so be careful at them rest stops!

  41. Good old Vise Grips, best tool ever. More often than not, if Torq heads are damaged, it's because the person either didn't have the right tool to do the job or they didn't have the Torq bit properly seated. I've seen lots of them rounded off because they used an allen wrench that fit, but because you are on rounded edges, it's going to slip. I love Torq head bolts though because they can take a lot of torque with out damaging them if you have the propper bit for them. I'll also admit, first time I ran into them on brake caliper pins, I used an allen wrench to remove them because I didn't know what the hell they were and ended up replacing the pins and getting a torq socket set to put the new ones in.

  46. yep, this is what I'm talking about. You'll make aquaintences, but will they help you when you are old and need somebody to take you to the doctor? will they even check in on you when you haven't been around? or will they find your carcass after 2 weeks when somebody reports the smell to the township office? I'm being serious here roots take time to grow. If you never worked there, didn't go to school there, and didn't live there more than 10 years and didn't get involved in stuff with the town, school, or Church what kind of roots are you going to have? I'm not trying to give you a hard time here, I'm really trying to help you out. People don't think about this stuff when they have their health, but you have been out there for a good part of your adult life now, so don't throw that away because you had some arbitrary notion from your youth about moving around mobility is the biggest lie in our culure. It is what destroyed families and towns all over America
