Popular Post Dirtyhip Posted July 30, 2022 Popular Post Share #2 Posted July 30, 2022 Hi Mr. #7. Thanks for the call out. I miss you too. Hope you are well. Is it too hot for baking? It's over 100 here. Oregon is melting. Still in love with Xanadu here. It is just incredible. We have had a few pump track parties at our house. It is so much fun. Those nights, our property is teeming with kids and adults playing on the trails and the track. I have all these zones you can ride through: Celery central, Garlic grove, a bridge over "false creek" and we even have a purge creek. My milkweed is starting to grow after many failures. I am trying to get it established in purge creek (the purge drainage for our salt free water softener system). One of our trees died, the walnut. All others are holding on decently. I have my first hazelnuts that are growing on the tree. So impressed that it is happening already. We have been riding and using our stand up paddleboards all the time. Sadly, we have to drive about 40 minutes to get to clean water to paddle on. I guess some people have it worse in order to get to beautiful zones. The Mr and I have been really enjoying the fact that we can be on good trail in just a few minutes. I can see the mountain from my couch. Oh, and another fun thing. My new pastime is taking a 5 gallon buket down to a petting zoo that is just over my fence. I go down and hand feed cows, chickens and goats. They really like my fresh alfalfa, clover and other assorted edible garden plants. I walk down there and they all come trotting over to the fence. Cow tongue is very similar to a cat tongue. It's very sticky. When I hand them a lettuce plant, they reach out with their tongue. It's quite funny. 6 1 4

At least it isn't that giant version that causes skin burns. I'd gladly trade some hogweed for that milkweed!

Dirtyhip Posted July 30, 2022 Share #5 Posted July 30, 2022 Just now, Further said: Hi Hip' Glad you are having a great summer It's good, but too hot. Paddling today at this small lake. HAHA, we tried to paddle another lake that was busier a few days ago. So, there we are trying to stand up on these things, and boats are making waves and it was windy too. It was challenging. People that can ride thee things in the ocean are fantastic. I'll get better at it. The hard oart about trying new things, is sucking at them in the beginning.
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted July 30, 2022 Author Share #6 Posted July 30, 2022 Thanks for posting. It is always good to hear from you. Not too hot for baking. A friend gave me a dehydrator. I'm using it today for the first time. Three pints of blueberries, 1 1/2 pints raspberries, and a lot of cherries. We will see how this goes. Also making sourdough English muffins (two dozen). The garden is doing well, not as large as yours, but it is protected from deer. Four varieties of tomatoes and just beginning to show fruit, zucchini, cucumbers (for pickles) are going gangbusters. I've made six pints of pickles so far. Basil, jalapenos, ghost peppers, and nasturtiums round out the rest of the garden. I am trying sauerkraut for the first time this weekend. If that goes well, I will try kimchi and sour pickles. Lacto fermentation is my new classroom.

My swamp milk weed is taking off this year too. So many monarch caterpillars, but I think birds at some of them. 1
