For years, I used to drink them away. It was an easy solution to a complex problem. As I became sober, I worked on peeling away the onion with the help of others. One by one, I worked on those fears with the help from a new faith. Those fears still exist but I try to tackle them differently now. As soon as I recognize I'm in a fearful state, I contact others around me to help me get through it. Loved ones, my girl, my dog and a set of instructions provided from groups that deal with this thing called, "Life". I've become happy, joyous and free for the most part as a result. Probably related to the above, I use to be very, very shy. I force myself not to be. If the fear interfers with my life, I confront it head on. If the fear doesn't make much of a difference, I just avoid it. For example I'll never knock on the door of a known vampire except maybe at noon. I liked to play the favored side of the course at the line, so pin end port start was not uncommon for me. I would cross the fleet on port, with lots of ducking. This was easy in my little 20 footer.
