Zealot Posted August 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2019 I know my country’s military is of a softer, gentler mindset/culture these days regarding discipline. But for you older vets, ever get hit or otherwise handled by one of your drill instructors?
maddmaxx ★ Posted August 13, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2019 Corporal punishment had nothing on Chief hardass. We went through navy boot camp relatively unscathed, but in electronics school woe be it unto anyone who stuck his hand into something live without turning it off first. Smack to the back of the head. edit: in their defense however they were trying to keep us alive.
Tizeye Posted August 13, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2019 I don't know. The kept saying "Sir, yes sir!" to me and hitting their forehead with their right hand expecting me to do the same.?
Tizeye Posted August 13, 2019 Share #4 Posted August 13, 2019 Corporal punishment? They didn't have to be corporals. Pvt, PFC, Specialist ? Class, even Sgt were equally eligible for punishment. Have to spread it around and not let the Corporals have all the fun.

ChrisL Posted August 13, 2019 Share #7 Posted August 13, 2019 Oh man... I went through Army boot camp in 1984 and no drill sergeants were not supposed to touch recruits... But our barracks and another company was isolated from the rest of the training battalion. Drill sergeants didn’t beat on us just because but if you disrespected them or mouthed off you would get drilled. I mentioned the Full Metal Jacket line, which side is this private!?!? So happened in the exact scenario. During a weapons inspection after a day at the range I didn’t realize a round was in my ammo pouch. Drill Sergeant punched me in the stomach so hard I almost threw up. In talking to other MPs none went through the beat downs we did. After I got out I worked with a guy who was a former MP and he was in the class ahead of me, same training company. He had the same experience as I did... In my unit corporal punishment wasn’t common. Promotions usually meant walking the gauntlet where your squad mates punched you in the arm. When I picked up Sergeant I opted to be “blood pinned” where they leave the backing off the rank and pound them into your chest. My NCOs where high speed and I respected them immensely. They didn’t need to resort to violence.
