Rattlecan ★ Posted November 12, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 12, 2017 I think the theatres are finally conceding that people don't want to watch the crap that Hollywood is putting out these days. So, they are recycling the classics. We rather enjoyed it.

Tom Yeah, the Bogie movie. Guess it's one word not two. Tickets were $6.50 each.
Road Runner Posted November 13, 2017 Share #4 Posted November 13, 2017 I would like to see, "2001: A Space Odyssey" on the big screen again. Seen it many times on a big screen TV, but it's not the same experience; not even close. Also, I would gladly pay to re-see "Ben Hur", "The Magnificent Seven", and "Jaws", just to name a few. Razors Edge ★ Posted November 13, 2017 Share #5 Posted November 13, 2017 BTW, Casablanca was on TV yesterday, and Jaws has been in rotation for the past month or so. Tom
jsharr ★ Posted November 13, 2017 Share #6 Posted November 13, 2017 We have a chain of theaters in Texas named Alamo Draft House. The have all sorts of themed movie events that are not based on new releases. They show new releases too, but not exclusively. And you can get a decent meal and a beer, wine or cocktail as well.https://drafthouse.com/series

Tom I think we were discussing watching the classic movies in a theater. Jaws on TV is not the same as Jaws on the big screen.

I like being able to pause, hit the restroom, grab some more stuff to gnosh on, hit play, and then fall asleep. Can't do that in a movie theater. 12string Posted November 13, 2017 Share #9 Posted November 13, 2017 Nov 26th will be the 75th anniversary of the premiere of Casablanca. It's showing on big screens around here this month to celebrate. I've heard a rumor that I'll be going to see it.

smudge ★ Posted November 14, 2017 Share #11 Posted November 14, 2017 Our theater does Throwback Thursday now and again. I should pay closer attention to the offerings. I did see Wizard of Oz with a co-worker a while back.
LoneWolf Posted November 14, 2017 Share #12 Posted November 14, 2017 Casablanca: Still one of the best movies ever made. With some of the best lines. Rick: I don't mind a parasite. I object to a cut-rate one. Maj. Heinrich Strasser: What is your nationality? Rick Blaine: I'm a drunkard. Capt. Louis Renault: That makes Rick a citizen of the world. Ugarte: You despise me don't you? Rick Blaine: Well if I gave you any thought I probably would. Rick Blaine: And remember, this gun is pointed right at your heart. Capt. Louis Renault: That is my "least" vulnerable spot.
