She worked for the Resistance against the Nazis in her native Belgium as a young teen in WW2, including many dangerous missions where she was nearly caught delivering crucial messages on her bike, etc. Her family moved to England after the war and she trained to be a dancer. She was eventually told she'd never be a professional. She turned to acting and was supposedly "discovered" by major movie producers on the steps of the Monte Carlo casino in Monaco.
