Airehead Posted August 15, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2020 We had that large pile of mulch to spread today. First I wanted all the areas free of weeds. So I grabbed a hoe and went out back. Einstein comes along and starts hand weeding some creepy vine weed thingie. I am quietly just working space by space. Finally he says that the hoe might be a decent tool. Yes, he has figured this out after twenty years of watching me use it. He borrows it. Now I am standing there watching because I am way too smart to hand weed this junk. I felt like Tom Sawyer. He did the whole area. then we got bucket after bucket of mulch down. 2

At my former employer, the boss was a perfectionist asshole and nothing you ever did was good enough. If there was something fussy that was kind of a judgement call, it was always a good idea to ask him how to do it and then act dumb when he showed you. If you did it right, he would do the whole thing - which meant it was immune to criticism. This was referred to as “Tom Sawyering”. While he was doing your job for you, your “buddies” would be discussing painting a fence and pantomiming painting - from a position where you could see them but he couldn’t..... 1

He bitched a bit about the location of the hydraulic connectors for the front end loader when he hooked it up.
