For somebody who has never been there, why? I think I get Lake St Clair -- shores of Detroit -- but why Huron?
shootingstar Posted April 5, 2022 Share #54 Posted April 5, 2022 I'm not sure how people are judging each Great Lake. But clearly scenery is 1 of them. 30 minutes ago, Dottles said: For somebody who has never been there, why? I think I get Lake St Clair -- shores of Detroit -- but why Huron? Kzoo, may not be aware of some nice areas ...beaches with sun-warmed waters on Lake Huron. A good friend has a cottage that sits on a bluff overlooking the beach. She lives in a cute village that has a number of American residents who own vacation homes for past few decades. I see the license plates and flags. People associate Lake Ontario with urban waterfront etc. Well, there are sections, where I saw cows grazing on grass just abit above the lake shoreline .. You also would experience Lake Ontario from a different angle, if one spent a few hours on Toronto Islands where there a cute houses, etc. (residents there are very protective of their little oasis..even it occasionally floods)...a short ferry ride from Toronto harbour. There's also a tight spot near Lake St. Clair, where's a river dwindled to nearly a brook....and just so close...is the U.S. on the other side. Have you ever been to the western shore of Lake Michigan you would not have to ask that question...you would be able to see sun rises like this. I still love to go paddle boarding early mornings on Lake Michigan

We have a lot more sand here and with the prevailing winds our water temp is normally higher.
shootingstar Posted April 6, 2022 Share #58 Posted April 6, 2022 Maps | Great Lakes Waterfront Trail There some parts more scenic than others on the southern route leg. We also biked away from the great lakes, alongside St. Lawrence River to Cornwall,, Ontario. The bike route is the Thousand Island parkway. We did 500+ km. camping and cycliing from Toronto,
BR46 Posted April 6, 2022 Share #59 Posted April 6, 2022 What is a fun bicycle ride is what we nicknamed the ferry to ferry tour. We bike the 65ish miles to miles to Milwaukee and take the lake Express to Muskegon Michigan. Then bicycle up to Ludington Michigan along the lake and take the SS Badger to Manitowoc and ride along the lake home. Round trip 189 miles. 1

They are all great but Lake Michigan is just a bit greater. What makes Lake Ontario great is it doesn’t touch Michigan 😁 1
shootingstar Posted April 6, 2022 Share #61 Posted April 6, 2022 I recommend this route, early fall will be nice or early June before it gets humid, there are short paths route wineries along the way. history, falls, wine/food, etc. Niagara River - Park Trail - Ontario Bike Trails Niagara on the Lake is a lovely town.

I crossed on the Badger from Manitowoc to Ludington in July 2009 on my cross country bike trip. Or watch a movie in the movie theater?
