Ralphie ★ Posted August 2, 2023 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2023 Isn’t there an older version of particle board or osb that is really shitty and very flimsy, especially when wet, and apparently made oot of paper scraps? Paperboard does not google to that though, it goes more to cardboard-like stuff.
JerrySTL ★ Posted August 2, 2023 Share #2 Posted August 2, 2023 I seem to remember something like that, but just barely.
12string Posted August 2, 2023 Share #3 Posted August 2, 2023 Not really like OSB, it's like thick cardboard. I think it's supposed to insulate a little bit. Unless we're talking something else It's all over inside the walls at Jr. Wife's house.

Kzoo Posted August 2, 2023 Share #5 Posted August 2, 2023 Celotex. I used it on a house in ‘82. Unusable in today’s construction.

Used to use it for shooting range backboards. Fairly cheap and easy to stick thumbtacks or staples in. All you could make from it is a mess. I remember seeing lots of houses built with it in the 80s for sheathing, and I was glad mine at least used OSB. So it can’t be used no more? Why not? I heard you could cut right through the side of a vinyl sided house built with Celotex with a box knife.

And it sucked up moisture like a sponge. And it had no structural value. And yes. Vinyl siding, celotex and 1/2” drywall, a good fist could take out everything between studs. UglyBob Posted August 3, 2023 Share #13 Posted August 3, 2023 I remember my dad using Beaverboard, which was pretty much the same thing as celotex, to make a temporary room divider in one of our bedrooms. It was pretty easy to put your foot through, if I remember right.
