Neither one of my college alma maters, UMBC and IIT, have football teams

The big cheer after sports losses at IIT was, "That's alright. That's ok. You'll be working for us one day.

But UMBC always had pretty and high-SAT-scoring cheerleaders like our girls below. Despite being one of the smallest, sub-10,000-student Division-I schools it has done very well since the 90's when it was promoted to the highest category, Division I. It knocked off #1 Virginia in the 2018 NCAA Basketball Tournament and almost did a similar win in 2019. It qualified for the 2019 Div. I NCAA Lacrosse Championships and 2019 NCAA Softball Championships after winning their conferences, advancing through the Softball playoffs until knocked-out by National Champion Oklahoma.  Earlier they produced NCAA Division-I All-American Pitcher Karen Jacobson, who I coached on our high school softball team.

I was one of the founders of UMBC's original Chess and Go Club in the early 70's though it wasn't a competitive club. Later, it became a very serious Chess Club and from 1999-2014 it reached the final four of the U.S. Collegiate Chess Championships every year and was National Collegiate Chess Champions in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, and 2010 and Pan-American Collegiate Chess Champions a record 10 times in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2009, and 2012.
