groupw Posted December 10, 2023 Share #1 Posted December 10, 2023 We were relaxing in bed this morning. I could tell the air had a little extra nip to it so I turned on the furnace for the first time this season. After several minutes the smoke alarms went off! I could smell that hot dust smell and figured that had to be the culprit. We opened a couple windows and switched to fan. I got into the attic to be sure and the furnace appears fine. Windows are closed and just shut off fan. Things are calm. Smoke alarms stopped almost immediately. Going to try it again this afternoon with the windows open. If we set them off again, I will have the heat/ac guys out. 2 1 1

JerrySTL ★ Posted December 10, 2023 Share #5 Posted December 10, 2023 I always turn on the heater well before we need it just in case something goes wrong. Easier to get a HVAC person earlier in the season. I can also open the windows in case it smells. Same goes with the AC early in the spring. 1
Popular Post groupw Posted December 10, 2023 Author Popular Post Share #6 Posted December 10, 2023 I ran it again when I got home from my ride. No smoke alarms. Guessing something was in the seasonal dust the first time. It seems all the systems are in the attic out here. I think it’s a carryover from the evaporative/swamp cooler AC systems you see on houses from the 50s-70s out here.
